As Canada’s leading organization for women in mining, we envision an industry that fosters, promotes and empowers women.  We see a future where the possibilities, opportunities and dreams are the same for all, regardless of gender. Our mission is to Educate, Elevate and Empower all women in mining and affiliated industries.

NWA is a not for profit organization that was incorporated in 1977 to empower and support indigenous women and their families throughout the northwest territories. NWA NWT’s guiding principle is that all indigenous ancestry will be treated with dignity, respect and equality and benefits and services will be extended to all no matter where one lives and regardless of tribal heritage.

Mining in the NWT has a rich and ongoing history in precious and base metals (gold and zinc) and diamonds. Today, the NWT is looking towards critical minerals that are rapidly becoming important on a global scale.

About 200 kilometres south of the Arctic Circle, at the bottom of Lac de Gras in Canada's Northwest Territories, sit some of the world’s most beautiful and sought-after diamonds. The Diavik Diamond Mine, which we own and manage, comprises 4 diamond-bearing pipes that we mine using a combination of open pit and underground mining. Our diamonds from Diavik are stunning white gems, produced to the highest possible standards of safety and integrity.

Canada’s first surface and underground diamond mine is known for producing our premium gem quality diamonds that are world renowned. Burgundy Diamond Mines owns and operates the Ekati Diamond Mine. Ekati is located in the Lac de Gras region of the Northwest Territories of Canada, approximately 300 kilometers northeast of Yellowknife.

Gahcho Kué, the world’s largest diamond mine, opened on September 20, 2016. It is a fly-in/fly-out remote mine site on the Canadian tundra just south of the Arctic Circle, about 280 kilometres northeast of Yellowknife, the capital of the Northwest Territories.

The Prairie Creek Project is located in traditional Dene territory in Canada’s Northwest Territories. The Prairie Creek Project consists of the Mine and surrounding land and access.
