About Women in Mining and Energy
Representatives from NWT mines and government partnered to establish the NWT chapter of Women in Mining, launching at the Yellowknife GeoScience Forum in November 2019. Since that time, the group has acted to build and strengthen the chapter, create awareness of the opportunities provided by the mining industry, provide opportunities for networking, and encourage more women to consider education and careers in mining.
The Chapter has been incorporated as a Society to further its goal to increase the representation of women in the mining industry, at all levels. The Chapter also hopes to make the industry safe and comfortable for women, where all women will feel validated and encouraged to contribute. The chapter hopes to promote its goals through exchanging information with other advocacy groups promoting women, hosting networking events, and promoting education programs targeting female participation in mining.
Women in Mining Canada is a national not-for-profit organization formed in 2009 focused on advancing the interests of women in the minerals exploration and mining sector, through their mission to Educate Elevate Empower all women in the Mining industry and affiliated industry. The NWT Chapter hopes to add value of local chapter of Women in Mining all across Canada, from coast-to-coast.
